The tide is high

Recently while baby sitting my 7 year old neighbor , I found a smart way of keeping her occupied by giving her the #Colgatemagicalstories exercise and I was blown away by her imagination.

After helping her cut out the pictures from the Colgate pack, I asked her to weave a story around the cut outs for me. And she did, beautifully.

Here goes her story :

Many many years ago merchants used to travel from one place to another by ship. As their journey used to last for days, they would keep all their treasures in an allotted place and would only unload it on reaching their destination. During the day they enjoyed watching the blue waters and the beautiful sea creatures. Some loved watching the Dolphins while some were excited seeing the gold fish and the breathtaking sun sets.

One night when everyone was asleep, as a Dolphin was taking its routine jumps, it bumped into Little Gold and they got talking.

Little Gold : Ow! That hurt Dolph! Why do you keep jumping around? Aren’t you sleepy?
Dolph: Hey Little Gold, I’m sorry about that. And no I’m not sleepy, I enjoy my night jumps. Watching the stars makes me happy.
Little Gold : (looks up towards the sky) Yes, the night sky looks gorgeous.

While they were talking they heard a strange sound from somewhere nearby.

Little Gold : What was that sound Dolph?
Dolph : I don’t know Little Gold. Let me take another jump out of the water and look around. (Dolph took a jump and looked all around)
Dolph : There’s a ship approaching in this direction, but I don’t know anything about that sound we heard.

While they were talking, Mr Star came rushing towards them.

Little Gold : Oh hello Mr Star. How are you?
Mr Star : Hello Little Gold. I’m a little worried. As I was resting close to the ship, I heard a thud from the ship and woke up.

IMG_20160810_221208
Dolph : Oh you heard it too? We were just discussing it. Did you see anything?
Mr Star : (sounding a little worried) Yes, I saw a man dressed weirdly try to get onto the ship. I don’t know why he was awake this late and why he was dressed like that. He looked dangerous.
Dolph : Oh no! That doesn’t sound like good news.
Little Gold : Why do you say that Dolph?
Dolph : Have you heard of Pirates? They’re robbers. They capture everything they can, threaten the people, take all the treasure and escape. I hope this is not a pirate we’re dealing with.
Little Gold : Oh no.. I’m scared now.
Dolph : Hey little gold, don’t be afraid. Maybe we’re wrong. Let’s head towards the ship and see for ourselves. All of us need to stick together, okay.
Mr Star : Dolph is right. We’ll stick together.
Little Gold : Okay.

By the time they headed towards the ship, Dolph took another jump to see if he could spot anything.

IMG_20160810_222357

Dolph : Oh my! We were right. The man is a pirate. He’s packing away all the treasure from the ship. Those poor merchants will lose everything they have. We need to do something. Mr Star : Just what I feared.
Little Gold: What do we do now?
Mr Star : I have a plan. You two stay together. I will go find my friend who might be able to help. Don’t do anything until I’m back.

Mr Star left them and went to his sleepy friend Octopus.

Mr Star : Hey Octopus, wake up, wake up! We need your help.
Octopus : Wake up for what? The whole world is sleeping, let me sleep some more.
Mr Star : Oh no, you cannot sleep some more right now. We need your help. Otherwise those poor people will be looted by that Pirate.
Octopus : (Opens eyes wide) Pirate? Where? What are you saying?
Mr. Star : Come with me, I’ll explain everything on the way.

As Mr Star and Octopus were heading towards Dolph and Little Gold, Mr Star explained the whole story to him.

Octopus : We won’t let him get away. This is our environment and we won’t let crimes like this happen until we’re around.
Mr Star: Yes, we can’t let these incidents happen. We need to save those people’s treasures.
Dolph : But what are we going to do? He’s packed almost everything there.

IMG_20160810_221308

After packing everything, the pirate decided to first jump into the water and then put the loot  the with the net he put everything in. As soon as he jumped and was about to pull the net down, Octopus immediately used one of his tentacles to grab the pirate, the other to snatch the treasure from him, and the remaining tentacles to hi-five Mr Star, Dolph and Little Gold. The 4 of them threw the Pirate into the deep waters and he knew he had no way back. Octopus even made sure to keep the loot safely back in its place.

Mr Star, Dolph, Little Gold and Octopus together saved the night for all those on the ship without them even knowing anything.

And after that adventurous swim, they called it a night and fell asleep.

If you’re as amazed with this story as I was, let me know. It brings back fond childhood memories.

Lots of love,

As a Fashion and Lifestyle blogger, getting invited to Press conferences and launches is great! It’s obvious that when there’s something great happening they’ll want you to cover it and deliver it to their audience. All that is super you know, and I absolutely thrive on the thrill of being around the who’s who, especially if there are celebrities I follow!

Note to self: For future Varun Dhawan events I should carry a photographer especially to click pics so that I can just enjoy myself looking at Varun 🙂

Last evening was the finale of #Varunsstylebuddy by FBB, in association with Kara wipes. The 15 contestants from different backgrounds and cities showcased their beauty along with their brains. They had 4 rounds , the first being the ethnic wear round, the second the western wear round, third the Q & A round and fourth the walk to the judges for a closer look.

The participants were gorgeous and confident. Clearly they wanted to win and made sure they put their best foot forward. Judges Vikram Bawa, Meiyang Chang, Riddhi- Siddhi, and Mayank Gandhi were extremely sweet to the participants which made it easier for them to stay calm and relaxed during the show. Even when one of the contestants blanked out during her Introduction and fumbled for words, they encouraged her to go on.

The highlight of the evening besides the crowning of the girls was Varun Dhawan! Yes, #Varunsstylebuddy would be incomplete if the man himself wasn’t around. Dressed in ripped jeans and a sweatshirt with keds, he looked his cool self. He motivated the girls, wished them his best, took selfies & posed with them and did all he could to keep everyone smiling! On being presented with a bouquet of flowers, he said he felt old accepting flowers as he belongs to the age group where he should be giving them, and not be on the other end. He immediately presented it to the anchor of the evening (lucky girl, I know).

Varun Dhawan, the brand ambassador of FBB believes that “You don’t have to spend too much to be Fashionable” and said he’s not at all “Brand conscious”. He added that whatever is worn should be done with confidence! He was a thorough gentleman and even though he was in a haste as he rushed out,he posed for a couple of pics with fans.

While the Jury were doing the calculation of points and deciding who the winners were, Meiyang Chang obliged with singing a line or 2 for the audience. Since the audience requested for yester-year Bollywood songs, Chang sang “Pal Pal Dil ke paas” and “Gulabi Aakhein” and later joked saying he often wondered who has pink eyes 😀

And here are the winners of the evening! Congratulations to the 5 gorgeous beauties who will shoot with Varun for the next FBB  campaign. Your journey to success has officially kick started.

No not really. Actually not at all. I just chose the title from the lyrics of “I’m sexy and I know it”.

Okay, let’s just say I’m a liiiiiiiiiitle motivated to do a little routine here and there, all thanks to this cute fitness hamper from Fitternity. I actually won it through this contest by Damselindestress. The hamper consisted of A t-shirt that reads “Know Pain Know Gain”, a blue sipper for the gym, a pack of blended roasted almonds and sesame seeds and a pack of Tetley’s Green tea. Also, the hamper clearly promotes fitness without making it seem tedious, hence I approve of it.

Here are some pictures (Apologies for the bad lighting and quality):

You may go check the damselindestress’s blog, as it’s a great way to find out cool stuff about Mumbai, food, books, fitness and salon updates from what I’ve seen last.
A big thank you to Damselindestress And Fitternity for choosing me as their winner. I’ve already started using the sipper and roasted almond pack which is great.

Note: This is not a sponsored post.

All we need is Radio Gaga

Standard

I played a Radio contest from the train.

If my blog is called the silent hummer, it’s definitely got something to do with my love for music. When I’m travelling to and from work I generally have my earphones (the B’day gift one) plugged on and I enjoy listening to my set playlist which include a lot of English classics. Off late, I switch on the FM. Especially these days considering I’m no longer on facebook and rarely make time for the newspapers and news channels, FM comes to my rescue. It keeps me updated with the lastest happenings, both gossip and otherwise.

So yesterday, as I was on my way home from work, switching across FM channels in the hope of listening to some Hindi masala songs, I stopped at 91.1- Radio City and heard the RJ give out the radio station contact number to anyone interested in playing a fun contest. The contest seemed pretty simple and doable, and the competitor in me immediately dialled the number to participate. The line was obviously busy, but on my last try I got through.
The contest was such: For 40 seconds the RJ would ask me questions to which I had to answer to the point with regular talking speed, but I had to make sure I don’t say “Ha, Na and Nahin” in any way. P.S: Radio City is a Hindi Radio Station. Very easy right?? No!

As he tried to trap me with his questions, I confidently managed to get away with 4-5 questions by answering him without using the forbidden words. And then came the question “Basic Instinct movie dekhi aapne?” and in a haste I replied, “Yaad nahin aa raha hai”!! Boom! I said “Nahin” in a sentence, within 40 seconds and it got me out!

None the less, it was a fun contest. The RJ, Rohit Vir was sweet on the call too. Infact I enjoyed the conversation with him before the contest as well. Here’s why, On getting connected with him, he asked me where I was at that moment. As soon as he heard me say I’m in a super packed Fast train from Bandra to Dadar standing at the edge, he almost hung up on me saying I need to focus on the crowd and not on the game!! He even promised to call the next day (today) and play the same contest 🙂 It was really kind of him, but I somehow managed to convince him to stay on the call until I got off at Dadar (which is just 3-4 mins away) and then play. He even made me promise I wouldn’t ever hang off a train and talk to someone on the phone like that. Ofcourse I agreed. Haha. I’m sure the ladies around me in the compartment wondered what kind of a wierdo I was continously asking someone to not start the game. 😀
Oh also, When my game was over, I wanted to hear the recorded version on radio which would happen 5 mins after a song being played. It was just around that time I met a school classmate. I thought it would be mean of me to still listen to my music while in the presence of someone I know, so I told her about the contest I just played and suggested we could listen to it together. So what if I lost? Big deal. She didn’t have her earphones, so I just hopped onto the seat near her, shared my earphones and we kept giggling away in the train as we heard the game.
So yea, that’s my Bizzare radio- train story.
The Fun RJ was Rohit Vir, his facebook page is here. And not forgetting my awesome earphones:

earphones you can buy them from here.

Would love to know some other bizzare stories 🙂

Yours Truly,
