100 Followers!! Just recently my blog completed a year and now 100 followers! Wohoo!! That’s more than enough to make me a very very delighted person today.
When I started blogging I didn’t even imagine this, but now everywhere I go, everything I eat, I try hard fighting the thought in my head of documenting each and everything.

This post will be a relatively short one, with pics showing you some love and my OOTD. 🙂

Sincere thanks to everyone who is a follower (and a potential follower). I hope my posts make it worth your read, while you promise to never click that Unfollow icon. Haha!
Last evening I somehow expected to be reaching this milestone soon, so when I woke up somewhere around midnight I checked my phone and received my 100th Follower confirmation! Obviously I was over the moon and got some good sleep after that. If you’re reading this and haven’t followed me yet, click that follow icon NOW!! Not only here, but even join me on Twitter and Instagram for times I’m unable to post a whole article.

I’m not really a matching-matching kind of person but as you may see in the pictures, I got my attire to match my umbrella nail paint just for today! Another achievement for me. I had planned on treating myself to something sweet keeping in mind my sweet tooth, but it turned out to be a colleague’s birthday at work and I had enough of cake! This evening I’m attending a close friend’s farewell party so my treat to myself is still pending.

All I need is a miracle, All I need is You!

Working as a Front desk executive taught me some things that I will keep in mind always. You may call these things the basics. The obvious points in my role would be looking presentable and professional, always maintaining a smiling and approachable appearance, making sure the reception area is tidy and of course being efficient in the other admin jobs given. I’ve come to realise that this is one role that may be neglected most of the time. In this role, there are high chances that you may be the last one to know if it’s someone’s birthday or if someone is promoted. You may even not get to be a part of certain office events, well because “If you don’t take those client calls, then who will?”

Like other jobs, this role has it’s own positives and advantages as well. For one, mostly it’s not a stressful job (which means your hair won’t gray as soon as others) and you will have suitable fixed timings . Also, you will be far away from office banter, office gossip and negative vibes. And then if you’re lucky with not too many walk-ins, you can click some selfies with no one watching (but first make sure you don’t have office cameras).

Office employees and colleagues will be busy with their work and their teams. But remember, whenever they need anything for office use, they will first think of approaching you. Generally in offices, you will have things kept in specific storage spaces like cabinets and drawers. But to save you some time, energy and effort, I’ve compiled a list of things that you can always keep handy in your drawer. After all, all they need is a miracle, all they need is you. Here it is:

Stationary Items

Stationary Items

1. Basic stationary: This is the most basic thing your desk should have besides your desktop, keyboard and mouse. Stationary will include pens, pencils, erasers, white ink, stapler, punch, pins, scissors, post it etc. Keep in mind, since it’s not your house, you will require a simple and professional looking pen stand to keep these things in order. I can assure you that even though every employee is given stationary, they will keep coming to your desk to grab a pen/ pencil before rushing to that meeting they are getting late for. It’s obvious that you need to have pens that work!

Tissue box

Tissue box

2. Tissue Box: Again, this is a staple. You never know when your cup of tea spills all around your desk and keyboard making you a nervous wreck. Also, you will have colleagues who even though they vist the fresh room before leaving office for a meeting, they will grab some tissues from your desk on their way out.

Band- aid

Band- aid

3. Band-aid: It’s not possible to keep an entire first-aid box with you at your desk, but whenever someone approaches you with that sad boo-boo look, pull out your band-aid and hand it over. Look at that face turn into a smile as though you’ve just saved their life. If you’re not as petrified as me, you can offer to help if possible.
Also, with women and new shoes, blisters are nothing new. Band-aid always to the rescue.

Needle-thread and pins

Needle-thread and safety pins

4. Needle and thread / Safety Pins: I swear I’ve seen instances where employees are strutting out for a meeting and suddenly the slit on their skirt goes farrrrr (roll the rrrr to get the sound I’m making). It can be the most embarassing situation for the employee and she may just not know how to fix the issue. Here’s where you pull these out and save their day. I assure you, you will be thanked profusely, and maybe you may even get a treat.

Handmade Flowers

Teddy snowball

5. Some personal touch to your desk: A colleague made these little flowers for me. The pink one is out of stocking and the green one is out of a wasted courier envelope.Adding these personal little things help me remember there are days when you are appreciated for who you are and what you do. Also, while you may have colleagues waiting for someone at the reception or while waiting for that band-aid, these will initiate conversation. One of my colleagues, even keeps all post-it notes, even though none of those are reminders.

It’s also a great idea to have a folder containing all near-by restaurant menus, have some sanitary pads, and some loose change for someone when they desperately need it.
I also suggest, since these are the very few occasions that people may come up to you, be approachable and warm. Make conversation with them so the next time they see you around, they will acknowledge your presence. It’s equally important to dress right and have your hair and make-up in place, as professionally talking “You are the face of the organization”.

I’ve summed up all that I could think of. If you would like to add any points or give me your comments, I’d love to hear back from you.

The Silent Hummer Turns one today!

Exactly this day last year I started The Silent Hummer, and I am super thrilled for myself that I actually stuck to blogging. Evidently, it wasn’t just some random phase. I can’t wait for this blog to turn 5,6,7,8! Thank you for all the likes, comments, follows and appreciation. You may also congratulate me in the comment box and show some love.. Haha!

What else I’m excited about in life? Getting to be Bridesmaid once again!! Being a Bridesmaid is so much fun with the dress, shoes, the make up, hair do, the attention you receive etc. There are responsibilities too, but who’s complaining about them?

The first duty assigned to me as a bridesmaid was to shortlist dress patterns from the internet. I thought I’d do a great job considering there are like a million pictures available online. However directly googling pictures and patterns wasn’t worthwhile leading me to nothing but those trite patterns. I knew Pinterest would not disappoint. Let’s say, I wasn’t very pleased with my search, but none the less I managed to shortlist a few patterns. Duty one : ✔

Next I got a text stating we need to go for dress measurements. Not that we’ve selected the pattern but just y’know- measurements. Immediately panic struck! I’ve put on 6 kgs in the last 3-4 months and I don’t want to be a fat bridesmaid. Luckily there are still 4 months to go so I’ve requested for a months’s time to lose a little weight here and there. Kellogs Cornflake diet started. Duty two: ✔

Yesterday was the coolest part so far. Shoes shopping. Yay! The bride already shortlisted a few pairs and we just needed to go with the comfiest. So after I finished work last evening we planned to meet at one of the shoe shops at Bandra and after some major debating on color, pattern, size, what looked lose but felt comfortable against what looked perfect but was uncomfortable, whether to use the half insole or whole, we bought our pairs of shoes. Duty three: ✔

Remembering Cinderella

This reminded me of Cinderella.

Reaching Bandra before the others gave me enough of time to glance, and try on a variety of shoes at the different shops. It’s difficult to not give into temptation and buy some pairs for office wear/ casual wear or whatever occasion. I thought my will power was awesome yesterday. But now on second thoughts I should’ve gotten those flats that were on sale. Anyway..

The post got it's title from here D

Shoe collection 2

Looking at the collection of shoes in all these shops, makes you want to have them all, isn’t it?

Here’s a little thing I’d like to share. While trying on different pairs of shoes, there was this one particular pair I saw and wished was the one we settled for, given the fact that there are going to be long standing hours, some last minute running about, and lots of dancing to be done. Good news? The bride agreed that those were the ones we’d be wearing on her D- Day! I cannot share the image of that pair now obviously, but when the time is right you will get to see them.

No not really. Actually not at all. I just chose the title from the lyrics of “I’m sexy and I know it”.

Okay, let’s just say I’m a liiiiiiiiiitle motivated to do a little routine here and there, all thanks to this cute fitness hamper from Fitternity. I actually won it through this contest by Damselindestress. The hamper consisted of A t-shirt that reads “Know Pain Know Gain”, a blue sipper for the gym, a pack of blended roasted almonds and sesame seeds and a pack of Tetley’s Green tea. Also, the hamper clearly promotes fitness without making it seem tedious, hence I approve of it.

Here are some pictures (Apologies for the bad lighting and quality):

You may go check the damselindestress’s blog, as it’s a great way to find out cool stuff about Mumbai, food, books, fitness and salon updates from what I’ve seen last.
A big thank you to Damselindestress And Fitternity for choosing me as their winner. I’ve already started using the sipper and roasted almond pack which is great.

We are never ever getting back together

This Taylor Swift song is rightly meant from my friend to Ebay India.

Ebay dress

Somewhere around April this year, a friend of mine saw this pretty flowy-like dress on Ebay India. It was very similar to the one in the pic above and costed about Rs. 1299/- Being the online shopoholic that she is, it didn’t take too long to punch in her credit card details and tick the saved address for delivery. As I mentioned in my previous post, even though you know what’s packed in that courier packet, the excitement is always there. So obviously when her dress arrived, with that big smile on her face she opened it. And I’m not exaggerating when I say her face dropped. Yea, forget the smile, her face dropped!

The dress that was supposed to be flowy and attractive, looked like the tailor just grabbed some left over material and made whatever he could in 30 mins. It didn’t have any fit, the material condition looked shabby with extra thread dangling along the edges. The color differed from the picture on the website. In simple words, it was crap. Here, take a look.

Shabby dress from ebay .jog

Today with online shopping, returns and excahnge aren’t such a problem.Unfortunately it’s not so with Ebay India. The customer service representative asked her to courier the dress back, for which she would be refunded by Ebay India. After several calls back and forth, checking and re confirming, credit or cash discussions, my pal finally got a cheque. However, the cheque cannot be deposited as it has her ebay account name which is really a short name. They didn’t even bother asking on who’s name should the cheque be. Also, on letting them know about it, they refused to make any changes and said the matter is closed from their end. On asking for any higher authority’s contact details they gave some forever unreachable contact numbers. We’ve finally given up on Ebay India, but what’s worse is Ebay India has lost 2 of it’s customers. Such a shame.

The point of this post is:

1) To warn you against shopping from Ebay India
2) To save your time, money and energy.

If you wish to continue shopping from Ebay India, do so at your own risk.

Oh also, I’ve heard some of the most random and funniest lines while listening to my frustrated friend’s conversation with Ebay India representatives:
– Ebay gulps our cash like they’re really hungry
– I want to know the climax, not the trailer
– The cheque also hasn’t come to me yet! Doesn’t it have legs?

You know I like my Chicken Fried

Standard

On Friday, my friends and me met up for early dinner. We chose Busago- the BKC outlet (in Mumbai) since we’d get to have some Burmese food for a change.

Outside Busago

Busago is well known for their Kaukswe. I had never been to any of their outlets before, but I knew what the food’s like, as people often call for it at work and I’ve tasted it a couple of times. Since it’s located just opposite Sofitel, behind the popular Starbucks and just beside Masala Library I expected Busago to be a big place with wide spacing between tables and all. But really it’s like a little.. I mean little cafe.Momos

Food food food

Chocolate mousse

Foodwise, I relished their Tibetan chicken momos with their red original chibs sauce. However we had to wait for over 20 mins for them to arrive. Realising service could take time we immediately called for our main course which consisted of 2 Chicken Kaukswes, Cambodian Curry Chicken and Chicken in Basil. Peach iced tea is what we all went for from the beverages section. Since I am not a food expert and the fact that the food certainly cannot be compared to the chinese (Indian chinese)/ mughlai food we are used to eating, I may not be able to judge how good the food was. All I can say is I don’t have much to complain about which is a good enough thing.
My favorite part of any meal has be dessert. We had ordered chocolate mousse and it was just about alright. Let’s say I’ve had beter chocolate mousse in the past.
According to me Busago is decent enough for a first time visit or just to try Burmese food out. You won’t be disappointed with the food, but I’m not sure about how soon you will want to go there the next time.

Happy after food

You are beautiful, no matter what they say.

Pathway We all love when there’s a parcel with our name on it, isn’t it? Even on knowing what’s in, it’s still exciting none the less. Yesterday when I got back home after work, mom said there was a courier for me. I was expecting some credit card correspondence from the bank so I decided to ignore it. Later however on realising I haven’t yet bothered to check it, mom brought the couriered envelope to me. It wasn’t from my bank, and was from an NGO called IMFPA- Indian Mouth and Foot Painting artists. As I opened the envelope, I expected to find a letter asking for donation. However when I actually opened it, I found such a beautiful little kit, which consisted of greeting cards, bookmarks, gift tags and even envelopes all done by mouth and foot painting . Their art was actually amazing. And mind you, I’m just not saying this out of pity for those unfortunate individuals who do not have their hands, it’s simply cuz they’re truly mind blowing. You have to see their work to believe, hence I’m putting up pics of all that I received. Sunrise Flower card Bookmarks Envelopes Letter I’m sure you admire their skills just as much as I did. I remember telling my mom, even though we have our hands we can’t do anything close to that. Looking at this kit compelled me to contribute in some way to this NGO. Even their motto is “Self-help,not charity”. I’d like if you can try reading the last picture which is actually a letter from them. You can even check their website for more details or if you’d like to help them in any way.

I really wish they get all the support they require to continue doing this fab work. Good wishes to the IMFPA team. “You are beautiful, no matter what they say, words can’t bring you down.”

It’s Friday finally! It’s been a tiring week at work and home. Imagine staying up late reading management books, and at work covering for a colleague who’s on leave! That even explains why I haven’t been active on the blog recently. All I can hope for is a restful weekend. No meeting friends, no outing, no movie. Just plain rest with some books. Imagine the excitement when I came to work and received this, first thing in the morning today!

Aromatherapy Products!

Aromatherapy Products!

Aromatherapy products! Perfect for bed time! Even the line on those little bottles are so cute! Take a look at the close ups. Cute little bottles Inhaler A male colleague actually got them from someone in Singapore and he believes these are too girly for him. He won’t be using it and hence passed it on to me! I can’t wait to try them tonight before bed time and sleep like a child. I’m so tempted to open them right away and start sniffing and inhaling it all, but I think I’ll wait until the evening. Wishing you all a lovely weekend ahead!

Tie a Yellow Ribbon round the old oak (mango) tree

This weekend we celebrated my Sister’s birthday. It was celebrated with family and close friends, good food, drinks and cake. That’s the way we usually prefer it. I’d prefer a house party/ pajama party any day over late night clubbing. I’m not judgmental about people who prefer it, but that’s not my kind. I’ve informed you about how terrible the heat currently is in Mumbai, so dressing up in this weather isn’t easy for me. I chose a basic mustard yellow top and blue jeans. The top is actually a hand me down, and is now one of my summer favorites. Mom’s necklace added some more color to my look. IMG-20150524-WA0002 IMG-20150524-WA0009 Here in India, it’s the season of mangoes- the weakness of many! Since being spontaneous is fun, I got some mangoes that were around in the house and posed with them specially for this post. The color of mangoes matched my top perfectly.Check the pics, hope you like them. Quit Playing Games

Image

As promised in my last post, I’m here to share my experience of the IPL Match I witnessed live. Mumbai Indians v/s Royal Challengers Bangalore on 10th May ’15 at the Wankhede stadium, Mumbai.
Being Mumbaikars, Nol and me obviously rooted for MI. We went geared up for this match, it was our second time, the first being 2 years back. With our stomachs full after our heavy meal we braved the heat, did a little brisk walk from the nearest railway station to the stadium and made it for the 4pm match. The stadium was packed as expected. Cricket is really loved in India, in all forms.

IPL Tickets

The pitch

As RCB batted first, we witnessed Chris Gale’s powerful sixes, Virat Kohli’s expressive reactions, and AB De Villier’s century like it was a cake walk.  The crowd kept cheering- for some reason Malinga was the most audible cheer, the Mexican wave at the stadium was beautiful to look at, and people’s phone cameras captured it all (since cameras weren’t allowed in) . The Cheer leaders danced with all their moves synchronized, and the crowd dressed in Blue did too. Nol looked cute with his blue Malinga wig, while I had my blue devil horns and blue illuminated specs.

Big Bat
MI didn’t manage to make the required runs, no matter the effort by Lendl Simmons, Rohit Sharma or the very tall Pollard.
It’s bad luck that the previous time we saw the same teams play, even then RCB beat MI. None the less, it’s all about sportsmanship and it was definitely worth the experience watching the match with thousands of people around you! May the best team win the series.

Hope you enjoyed the post.
