Tie a Yellow Ribbon round the old oak (mango) tree

This weekend we celebrated my Sister’s birthday. It was celebrated with family and close friends, good food, drinks and cake. That’s the way we usually prefer it. I’d prefer a house party/ pajama party any day over late night clubbing. I’m not judgmental about people who prefer it, but that’s not my kind. I’ve informed you about how terrible the heat currently is in Mumbai, so dressing up in this weather isn’t easy for me. I chose a basic mustard yellow top and blue jeans. The top is actually a hand me down, and is now one of my summer favorites. Mom’s necklace added some more color to my look. IMG-20150524-WA0002 IMG-20150524-WA0009 Here in India, it’s the season of mangoes- the weakness of many! Since being spontaneous is fun, I got some mangoes that were around in the house and posed with them specially for this post. The color of mangoes matched my top perfectly.Check the pics, hope you like them. Mumbai Indians won the tournament in style! It was awesome! I’m so glad I watched a match live this season. Sorry Dhoni and team, better luck next time. You all have a great week ahead!

Quit Playing Games

As promised in my last post, I’m here to share my experience of the IPL Match I witnessed live. Mumbai Indians v/s Royal Challengers Bangalore on 10th May ’15 at the Wankhede stadium, Mumbai.
Being Mumbaikars, Nol and me obviously rooted for MI. We went geared up for this match, it was our second time, the first being 2 years back. With our stomachs full after our heavy meal we braved the heat, did a little brisk walk from the nearest railway station to the stadium and made it for the 4pm match. The stadium was packed as expected. Cricket is really loved in India, in all forms.

The pitch

As RCB batted first, we witnessed Chris Gale’s powerful sixes, Virat Kohli’s expressive reactions, and AB De Villier’s century like it was a cake walk.  The crowd kept cheering- for some reason Malinga was the most audible cheer, the Mexican wave at the stadium was beautiful to look at, and people’s phone cameras captured it all (since cameras weren’t allowed in) . The Cheer leaders danced with all their moves synchronized, and the crowd dressed in Blue did too. Nol looked cute with his blue Malinga wig, while I had my blue devil horns and blue illuminated specs.

MI didn’t manage to make the required runs, no matter the effort by Lendl Simmons, Rohit Sharma or the very tall Pollard.
It’s bad luck that the previous time we saw the same teams play, even then RCB beat MI. None the less, it’s all about sportsmanship and it was definitely worth the experience watching the match with thousands of people around you! May the best team win the series.

Hope you enjoyed the post.

Feeling Hot Hot Hot

Firstly wishing all our Beautiful mothers A very Happy Mother’s day. Though I somewhere believe these special days are over rated and are business making rackets for Hallmark and Archies, making your mother feel special is never a bad idea. We all will agree to the fact that no matter how expensive our gift for her is or that dinner you’ve surprised her with, nothing is close to the amount of how much more mommy dearest deserves.

My sister decided to take mom and me to lunch at TGIF. As the planning was still on, we spoke to friends and we called them and their families too. By the end of it, we were 10 of us. It was one big happy jing bang with lots of food and drinks.

TGIF Review: I decided to reach early and make a reservation since they didn’t take my phone reservation. On trying to push the glass door, the hostess from inside scribbled on a notebook “12” indicating they open at 12pm. I looked at my phone, knocked on the glass door again, showed her my phone, the time stated it was “12:01” pm.She checked her watch and apologetically said they need 5 more mins.
Now TGIF came up with a new menu so we decided to give it a try. For appetizers We enjoyed the fish fingers with mashed potato and the dip, the onion rings which reminded me of “kaanda bhajia” from those vada pav stalls, the potato wedges were just right, and the salads were good too. For main course we relished the Portuguese blackened fish, Kung pao chicken, Some chicken Thai noodles and Newyork chicken. I doubt the penne pasta will be on my list the next time I go there. Anyway the desserts- Peanut Brownie and Mini Sundae were satisfactory, nothing over the top.
Ambiance was great, the place by itself makes you feel alive and vibrant. Service could be much better but the place was crowded so it was understandable.

What I wore: Knowing Mumbai heat this summer, (remember my last post?) And keeping in mind that after lunch I was directly going for the IPL match *was excited about it*, I wore a plain Black tank top and my comfy blue jeans. To make it a little dressy I accessorized with mommy’s heavy necklace.

In my next post, I will tell you about the IPL cricket match I attended:)

Let me know what did you do this mother’s day? Or how did you spend your time this weekend?

The Heat is on

Image

This is the song that instantly came to my mind while thinking of a name for this post. Though it was a long weekend, I did not have exciting plans except for the hair makeover I told you about, so I spent a lot of time resting and relaxing at home. On Sunday afternoon, I received my order from Fashion and you which was a colorful top by Mayara. Looking at it online, I thought it’d be alright for a regular friday at work or something, but now that I see it, it’s too casual. I decided I’d wear it that day itself and go out somewhere. Knowing it was hot and humid, a little after sunset seemed like a good time to head out. Turns out, it wasn’t as great an idea.

As soon as I left from home, the heat started getting to me.It made me grumpy, angry, thirsty and drained out!
I’m otherwise all excited while taking pics and all, but here I was in just no mood. Nothing around managed to cheer me, not the new top, or the new look, the bright flowers around me or the kids around. I did take a few pics, since that was my whole idea. Thankfully I managed to not look that grumpy in these shortlisted ones, in fact I’m actually happy with them.

With this kind of heat, I’ve decided I won’t do more outdoor posts until the weather becomes pleasant. I cannot wait for the rains to begin! Rain Gods hope you’re hearing me.

Let me know what you think of the heat, summer, my posts, or anything! I’d love to know. Now can I get some chilled beer please?

Paint my love

Standard

Here my hair is my love. When it comes to pampering myself, I always look up to these- Hair style and a massage. This time I went with Hairstyle to celebrate.

Celebrate what you ask? Well, come 2nd May and I complete 4 years of working at the same International company. It’s quite a big deal looking at how many faces I’ve seen come and go.

In order to celebrate, I decided to treat myself to a haircut and hair color at the very stylish B Blunt at Bandra. I was pretty excited knowing what I was going in for and knowing I was in safe hands. I climbed the stairs to the Salon like a gleeful child after making sure there were no cameras around watching me. I looked with awe at the beautiful models in the frames put up at the reception. I even watched the fashionista-like male and female stylists parade up and down thinking – oh these guys must love their job. I grabbed a mint placed at the desk, so that the stylist wouldn’t know I ate prawns for lunch. And then I waited patiently for 40 mins.

As the senior stylist Gayatri was discussing my hair texture and volume with another stylist, I overheard the other one say, “Great, She’s got Virgin hair”. Seriously that’s the term for hair that’s never been coloured before!

IMG_20150501_173839

Before

As Gayatri explained to me what look she thought would suit me, using all those typical “professional hair stylist words” I just replied with “I trust you”. Sure she knew she had some responsibility there.

After a quick hair wash including a little massage, it went chop chop from there. I wanted to go with Mahogany brown, but she suggested some blonde streaks. Oh also, what most of us call highlights, they call it hair painting (that’s why my post title). After the painting was over, I waited for a little more than half an hour, and sipped on some coffee.

After the final wash here’s what my hair looked like.

After

I never imagined blonde on myself before, but now I know it isn’t a big no no for the future. I’m happy with it as of now, I’ve been told it will get brighter with time.. Let’s see.. Not many have seen it yet so I’m still anxious about people’s reactions. Let me know what you guys think.

And that’s how my hair lost it’s virginity. 😉

Lots of love,
