Mama Mia, how can I resist you!

On this lazy Sunday afternoon as I lay in bed with my feet stretched out to the cupboard next to it, I’m thinking mozarella cheese. I’m thinking Burrata cheese. I’m thinking home made pasta. I’m thinking a glass of fancy red wine. I’m thinking some great music. I’m thinking great company. I’m thinking of a great Italian pasta bar in Hong Kong. Oh wait, I’m transported to Pici (Pronounced as Peachy)!

If you’ve read my previous travel posts, you will know that I’m not a big fan of South East Asian cuisines. Considering it is an acquired taste, I think my palette is opening up to it, but I can’t say I’m fond of it yet. Thankfully Hongkong has so many options available, I survived it without missing Indian food.

Here’s another thing about me. I’ve never gone trekking in my life, well at least not until Hong Kong happened. On one of my days there, the inner athletic in me decided to go trekking on the Dragon’s back. A legit 4 hour morning trek with a few stops to admire and click the scenic views.

It was certainly a personal accomplishment and what better way than to celebrate it with some great Italian food!

If you’re in Hong Kong, you’re probably well acquainted with Pici. Initially I called it everything from PC to Picki to pishi. On being seated, I finally gathered some courage and decided to get it out of the way with and asked what’s the place actually called! Peachy it is!

It is hard to miss Pici. If you’ve not visited it yet, I strongly suggest you give it a shot. It’s definitely worth the hype. The food for one is amaaaaaaazing, I mean I’m actually drooling thinking about that burrata cheese and gnocchi Al pesto pasta right now! I’m not a Tiramisu or Panna Cotta fan generally, but boy! I really did enjoy my dessert too here. Did I mention they’ve got some interesting cocktails?

Pici is well located and that’s another plus point. The place has got such a relaxing feel and vibe to it, the music and decor certainly add to it. The staff is warm and welcoming, happy to give their recommendations when needed. And the fact that you get to see your pasta being made in front of you is just so cool.

This restaurant is all about a great experience. Having been able to have super fun conversations with strangers, I won’t be shy in saying this restaurant can actually be an ideal place for a first date/tenth date.. Whatever! I mean this is where I got to know about the ‘Brad Pitt returning to Jennifer Aniston’ rumour. Don’t forget to make a reservation in advance, I tell you! You can thank me later.

I hope you enjoyed reading this post. If you’re visiting Hong Kong, you should definitely put this on your list of restaurants that need to be visited.

I’ll keep sharing tidbits from my Hong Kong trip here on the blog. Do let me know your thoughts in the comments below.

She’s been living in her white bread world

I am used to eating a lot of bread whether it’s in the form of sandwiches, bread with chicken gravy at home, pav bhaji, vada pav, hot dog rolls, or garlic bread. I’m not the health conscious type so I don’t really know benefits/dangers of that much bread. As long as the bread accompaniment is good, I’m a happy person.

Recently on Groupon India, there was a deal for Pizza Express at Andheri which my friends and I tried. We love deals, we love discounts and we’re not ashamed of it.

Pizza Express We knew what to expect as there was a special groupon menu available and the deal wasn’t bad at all for the cost. To make it a fun trip to Pizza express we even used the famous Mumbai Metro, which worked out like a perfect plan considering the outlet we went to was just below the metro station.

Having been to the Colaba outlet before with college friends, I loved the ambience and the vibes there, especially the open kitchen. When we had visited then, we even had to wait for 20 mins. Keeping that in mind, this time we made a reservation which really wasn’t needed. This particualr outlet is quite spacious, with a lot of tables. Also, just one of tables was occupied when we reached. So we had the liberty to decide which table we wanted and were ready to get some good service considering there weren’t too many diners.

The 4 of us went with Peach iced tea (was very watery due to tooooo much ice) for beverages, chose Garlic bread with Mozarella cheese (I did say I eat a lot of bread, didn’t I?) and Bruschetta Originale (err.. bread again! Also, it wasn’t that great a starter) for starters. Since we weren’t too excited with the Classic pizza options, we decided to pay extra and upgraded to Apollo and the Giardiniera thin crust pizzas that weren’t part of the Groupon Menu. For desserts, considering there was just gelato flavours of lemon, vanilla and chocolate to choose from, chocolate seemed like the best.

Since pictures are a very important feature of my posts, here are some pics. Enjoy.

Firstly wishing all our Beautiful mothers A very Happy Mother’s day. Though I somewhere believe these special days are over rated and are business making rackets for Hallmark and Archies, making your mother feel special is never a bad idea. We all will agree to the fact that no matter how expensive our gift for her is or that dinner you’ve surprised her with, nothing is close to the amount of how much more mommy dearest deserves.

My sister decided to take mom and me to lunch at TGIF. As the planning was still on, we spoke to friends and we called them and their families too. By the end of it, we were 10 of us. It was one big happy jing bang with lots of food and drinks.

TGIF Review: I decided to reach early and make a reservation since they didn’t take my phone reservation. On trying to push the glass door, the hostess from inside scribbled on a notebook “12” indicating they open at 12pm. I looked at my phone, knocked on the glass door again, showed her my phone, the time stated it was “12:01” pm.She checked her watch and apologetically said they need 5 more mins.
Now TGIF came up with a new menu so we decided to give it a try. For appetizers We enjoyed the fish fingers with mashed potato and the dip, the onion rings which reminded me of “kaanda bhajia” from those vada pav stalls, the potato wedges were just right, and the salads were good too. For main course we relished the Portuguese blackened fish, Kung pao chicken, Some chicken Thai noodles and Newyork chicken. I doubt the penne pasta will be on my list the next time I go there. Anyway the desserts- Peanut Brownie and Mini Sundae were satisfactory, nothing over the top.
Ambiance was great, the place by itself makes you feel alive and vibrant. Service could be much better but the place was crowded so it was understandable.

What I wore: Knowing Mumbai heat this summer, (remember my last post?) And keeping in mind that after lunch I was directly going for the IPL match *was excited about it*, I wore a plain Black tank top and my comfy blue jeans. To make it a little dressy I accessorized with mommy’s heavy necklace.

In my next post, I will tell you about the IPL cricket match I attended:)

Let me know what did you do this mother’s day? Or how did you spend your time this weekend?

Yours Truly,
