Ah this Katy Perry song! So motivating I tell you. If you’ve added me on Twitter and Instagram, you must’ve seen the sneak peek of my Diwali outfit.

Happy Diwali

Happy Diwali

I started hosting Diwali parties for close friends just last year. Bursting crackers and hanging out on my building terrace is great fun. The terrace is breezy, spacious and can accommodate many people, which is perfect for any occasion.
Knowing the well known negatives about crackers, we friends always make sure to never go overboard while enjoying ourselves. We care for people and animals around us, and value our hard earned money. Bombs, rockets and cracker strings are a strict no- no at my parties. Sparklers, Fountains and Chakris are welcome. This is keeping #traditionmyway in mind.

The interesting part about this year’s Diwali party was the dress code to follow. Indo-western fusion was the theme. The easiest way to put this look together would be wear a kurta on jeans or leggings. You’d stick to the theme and be boring at the same time. So after racking my brains and closet for sometime, I decided on a crop top and palazzos look. Where’s the Indian factor you wonder? It’s the crop top I’m talking about. It was my mother’s saree blouse from her younger days much before I was even born. Here take a look now.

What you may or may not believe about my look is, the orange saree blouse, the palazzos and the accessories actually belong to my mother. I was super excited getting to wear her stuff, thankfully they’re in great condition. This set has officially become mine now. Will have to ask my sis to buy similar stuff for her from www.jabong.com cuz I love this set too much to share it 🙂

I can’t wait to get my hands on more of these vintage things.

Hope all of you had a great Diwali this year. Please continue to keep your environment clean and safe for people around you. The Silent Hummer wishes you a Very Happy Diwali and a Prosperous New year! Spread the Light.

Any guesses why this Ricky Martin song title? The answer lies here:

Look at those cats!

It’s these cats!

Aren’t the cats adorable? Isn’t this top the cutest you’ve seen in a while? Note this is not a sponsored post so I’m not buttering anyone/brand and I genuinely feel this is good stuff.

I’m quite an online shopper for those who don’t already know. I tend to browse online shopping sites in my spare time. I even receive a lot of msgs regarding sales or special discounts as I’m registered with most of them. Recently while checking out Shopnineteen, I spotted this top. It’s quite attractive by itself and easily stood out from the lot they had. There are times when looking at something you know you just need to have it. This was one such time. I instantly fell for this catty top.

What’s not to like in it? It’s got cute cats (PS: I’m not a cat lover generally), it’s alive with umpteen colors, it’s got this satin like rich look and feel, and there’s a cute little girly bow at the neckline.

Usually at work we have a strict formal dress code so wearing jeans and a top like this would be inappropriate. Yesterday however we were given the choice to dress as per our wish as we celebrated our office Diwali party. I chose this top obviously, wore it on navy blue jeans, straddled on my bag and did a little cat walk at the office.

Some of my colleagues, especially the girls loveeeeeed the top, one even informed me that some time in the near future she will borrow it as she’s very fond of cats. 🙂

Firstly wishing all our Beautiful mothers A very Happy Mother’s day. Though I somewhere believe these special days are over rated and are business making rackets for Hallmark and Archies, making your mother feel special is never a bad idea. We all will agree to the fact that no matter how expensive our gift for her is or that dinner you’ve surprised her with, nothing is close to the amount of how much more mommy dearest deserves.

My sister decided to take mom and me to lunch at TGIF. As the planning was still on, we spoke to friends and we called them and their families too. By the end of it, we were 10 of us. It was one big happy jing bang with lots of food and drinks.

TGIF Review: I decided to reach early and make a reservation since they didn’t take my phone reservation. On trying to push the glass door, the hostess from inside scribbled on a notebook “12” indicating they open at 12pm. I looked at my phone, knocked on the glass door again, showed her my phone, the time stated it was “12:01” pm.She checked her watch and apologetically said they need 5 more mins.
Now TGIF came up with a new menu so we decided to give it a try. For appetizers We enjoyed the fish fingers with mashed potato and the dip, the onion rings which reminded me of “kaanda bhajia” from those vada pav stalls, the potato wedges were just right, and the salads were good too. For main course we relished the Portuguese blackened fish, Kung pao chicken, Some chicken Thai noodles and Newyork chicken. I doubt the penne pasta will be on my list the next time I go there. Anyway the desserts- Peanut Brownie and Mini Sundae were satisfactory, nothing over the top.
Ambiance was great, the place by itself makes you feel alive and vibrant. Service could be much better but the place was crowded so it was understandable.

What I wore: Knowing Mumbai heat this summer, (remember my last post?) And keeping in mind that after lunch I was directly going for the IPL match *was excited about it*, I wore a plain Black tank top and my comfy blue jeans. To make it a little dressy I accessorized with mommy’s heavy necklace.

In my next post, I will tell you about the IPL cricket match I attended:)

Let me know what did you do this mother’s day? Or how did you spend your time this weekend?

Just another Manic Monday

Image

Hola!

As much as I hate Mondays (trust me I really do), there’s something that helps me get through it. It’s dressing up for work- oh and food off late, but let’s keep this post fashion oriented. I am not sure how the men will find this helpful, because they’ve got few options, especially in the corporate environment. But we women thankfully have a lot to choose from in the dressing department.

Though it may not help shaking off the grumpy/cranky/pissed off Monday mood totally, dressing up will actually make you feel a tad bit better. And this I say with experience. Here in Mumbai, with the current climate (heat + humidity), I find it easier to pick a dress/ skirt compared to trousers. If the dress is chosen correctly, it’s easy to make an impression, that of a serious-no-nonsense-smart-business-person. And no other colour does it better than black. Agreed black and the heat is a complete no- no, but the air conditioner at work does make it manageable.

Black dress

Black dress

Here is one of my black dresses that makes me feel all corporate and confident. It’s not one of those LBDs but is definitely a must have in any corporate woman’s wardrobe. A coat/blazer can conveniently be added onto it to give it a different look. Also those shoes are my staple shoes at work, they’re really comfortable. I haven’t accessorized much except for the black belt and a wrist watch. Make up is minimal with just an eye liner, some lipstick and nail paint (nail paint was really from the weekend before) 🙂 Black dress 3 Hope you liked the post, would love to hear from you. Would like to know how do you guys dress up to work on Manic Mondays, I’ll certainly give it a try.
